Chowda This World

Soup Exchange
I know weekends almost always seem to fly by, but this one… wow!

Saturday: Our neighbor and friend, Pam, took Jack, Cyd and me to breakfast at The Dolphin at the very tip on the Wharf. We checked out the free membership day at MakersFactory (3D printing and lazer cutting!) and then wandered around downtown, talking to shops about First Fridays. We then did some grocery shopping and cooking for our “soup swap” on Sunday. Jack and his mom made some delicious corn chowder and minestrone, and I made some labels!

Sunday: Soup Swap at our new friends’, Jess & Brian’s, place. We ate, drank, mingled and walked away with a ton of great soups; I’m eager to try them all! It’s a really fun idea for a party, and we’re very much looking forward to the next one!

Art, Parks and Yard Sales

Neary Lagoon Park floating bridge
Good times this weekend! We kicked it off right with our first First Friday with our new friends, Jess and Brian! We probably drank a touch too much and had a slow go Saturday morning. We finally made our way over to The Santa Cruz Diner to drown our hangover blues in some eggs, bacon and hash browns. Later, Jack showed me Neary Lagoon Park (pictured above), a place his mom used to take his sister and him a lot, as kids. Sunday, we had a mellow little garage sale over at Jack’s grandparents. The weather was spectacular and I spent most the day sitting in the sun, reading. Considering how crazy the Flea Market was (Soquel was backed up in both directions!), I was surprised by how few people made it down to us. Oh well, next weekend we’re going to give it another go for both Saturday and Sunday, and start early…

Yay for More Holiday Boutiques!

A Santa Cruz Christmas Holiday Boutique
This past week has gone by SO FAST! Barely had time to post on Wednesday and no time at all yesterday! It’s been pretty crazy, but I’m glad to be getting out of the house more.

One of the reasons for us being away from the web yesterday was we signed on to do another awesome local holiday gift sale! A Santa Cruz Christmas Holiday Boutique has turned their glorious house, that seconds as an Open Studio, into a beautiful place for vendors to display!

What’s different than the gift sale we were involved with last week is that this holiday boutique is running until the 23rd, with many artist and some vendors being added every weekend.

It starts today at 310 Riverside Ave. Santa Cruz (super close to the Boardwalk) and times are:

  • Dec 9 – 11, 10am – 5pm
  • Dec 16 – 18, 10am – 5pm
  • Dec 19 – 23, 11am – 4pm

I leave for Atlanta next week, but Jack will be there for both of the other weekends. Come by and check it out, It’s gonna be a blast!

Gift Sale, Good Times

Our Tables
It’s amazing how quickly the holidays are approaching! Tons and tons to do before I leave for GA next week. Maybe another fair, nomBat work and I’m almost finished with my presents…

We had a fantastic time at the Gift Sale on Saturday; sold some prints, got to talk about the Art Party and made some new friends! For a few additional pics we took, check the Flickr stream or the post at The Santa Cruz Pop-Up Art Party.

Family Time

The Lone Cypress, 17 Mile Drive, Pebble Beach
Well, well, well, hello there! Hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving; ours stretched out into a week of family fun! It’s always so great when my parents come to visit and this trip was no exception.

  • Saturday: Art Party! Jack took the lead on it, so I could take my parents for a walk downtown, along the Boardwalk and the Wharf.
  • Sunday: We all hopped in the car and took a day-trip down to Carmel and Monterey. 17 Mile Dr in Pebble beach was magic!
  • Monday: Quickly grabbed breakfast with Cyd (Jack’s mum) and then on to San Francisco! We took a very cool walking food tour of the Telegraph Hill neighborhood. Afterwards we walked through Chinatown, down to Union Square. Then drove to our hotel in Marin.
  • Tuesday: St. Helena in Napa for a winery tour at The Beringer Vineyards.
  • Wednesday: Sausalito and taking the scenic route back down to Santa Cruz.
  • Thursday: Thanksgiving! It was most exciting! My parents got to meet a ton of Jack’s family. We ate, drank, played some poker and were very merry!
  • Friday: Sightseeing along the westside coast, in the beautiful weather! Steamers Lane, Natural Bridges and the Seymour Center at Long Marine Lab.
  • Saturday: A bite to eat at Paula’s and sent my parents off to the airport.

Thanks to my mom and dad for showing us a great time, as usual and Jack’s family for a truly warm and wonderful Thanksgiving! Love you all more than I can ever say!

Recap

Halloween in Santa Cruz
Well, this week was a busy one for nomBat, hence the much-later-in-the-day, one-picture-and-one-line posts. I’m not complaining; I like it when the graphic design stuff is going strong, even if it keeps me from working on prints, painting, what-not. It’s all art to me!

I did manage to post a new, original piece to the shop, though: Ladies in Type: Lover.

Halloween was entertaining, if a little slow. We got our partying out of the way on Saturday it seemed. Jack (who went as Shaun Riley) and I (Lisbeth Salander) just ended up checking out the downtown strip, which was pretty awesome. They close it off to traffic and Pacific Ave becomes a meandering parade for the whole town! Above is a pretty crappy picture, but it’s all I took that night… bummer.

Jack and I hope to check out First Friday tonight. We keep hearing great things about but kept missing it. Should be fun!

Enjoy your weekend, and don’t forget to “fall back” this Sunday. <3

Sun & BBQ

Pop-Up Art Party, Oct 22
It was a chill Saturday and an even mellower Sunday. The party, on Saturday, was great; spending a day in the park with good company and hot dogs! Sunday was a nice spend-the-day-in-PJs-and-plan day. We’re gonna take the next couple of weeks off from the Pop-Up Art Party so we can focus on some nomBat design projects and really plan well for the next party!
