My lovely bought more flowers for the apartment last night. There’s nothing quite like fresh flowers!

I’ve been working on some things related to this post, so I didn’t get to touch on my little computer drama that happened Thursday.
My biggest problem with my Mac has been its power… or its declining ability to hold it. The battery, unplugged, doesn’t work for over 20 minutes. This means I am more and more reliant on my power adapter cord. Well, I’ve having problems with it as well! This lameness included some exposed wires and disconnection of power. I should have imminently discarded the old cord, I know, but, I’m one of the biggest cheap-skates (ever), and I thought I could just tape it up and be done with it… *hangs and shakes head*
Thursday morning, before the caffeine had even made its way through my system, the cord caught fire! It was put out very quickly (thank you, Love) and there was minimal damages (small burn mark on the wall and burnt tape gunk on the desk).
Oooo, adventures before 9-in-the-morning!

We are well into Hurricane season, and although I am glad we are not dealing with the brunt of it. I’m sure it will be exciting to see the tail end of Tropical Storm Hannah come through this weekend.

The Hurricane season continues through November First, so we may get some additional excitement out of this season as well.
In California, El Nino was often a treat, when you could find your self a safe seat on the cliffs or sometimes on the seawall of a sheltered beach and watch the 15+ foot waves consume buildings on the ocean fronts and wharfs. I am having a similar feeling looking at the New York Preparadness hurricane evecuation map. With a tropical storm on its way I’d like to find myself and Jules a nice comfortable apartment and have some friends over to watch the ‘FDR waterpark’ for an afternoon.

As a side bonus reading through the NYC Preparedness page has encouraged me to go out and buy enough water to fill the rest of the kitchen storage we have left.. and then some.

So here’s a little update on that fabulous school locker we found. Jack’s pretty much finished painting the outside (we’re thinking white or off-white for the inside). I so adore this green color!

I cut a corkboard in the shape of stacked books; think it turned out cute.

I love my Nine Wests and the natural light this place gets.

Jack and I pulled a locker off the street, out front the school up the street, and he’s painting it Apple Green.

A few weeks ago Jack bought a few power tools, etc. and we have been putting them to excellent use in our apartment! We are declaring the theme of our place “Re-appropriated IKEA.” We started with drawers and slats of my old bed and made cute mini bookcases. But, last week, in an effort to open up or space a bit more, the impulse struck to take apart my big bookcase, use the remainders of the slats to make wall-mounted shelves. We are having so much fun taking things apart and making them our own and I could not be happier with the results!

Man, looks like I have IKEA on the brain these days, huh? Love IKEA’s prices, but loath the crowds and amount of time it takes? Well, this site gives great tips and tricks on how to make your next trip much quicker and more bearable (and get a cinnamon roll on the way out!).

Oh, the things I want from IKEA! These are the things we spotted on our last trip and didn’t pick up that I still really want. We shall see, though, since I imposed the savings spree again. *Le sigh*

IVAR, REXBO, FÖRHÖJA, TRONES

HEDDA LÖV, GÖREL

Well.. let’s see, it’s been a while, huh? Due to a trip to, the now infamous, Brooklyn IKEA, I have re-enacted the “Saving Spree” on myself again. This really really sucks, cuz there’s still a whole lot I want to get (but, that’s another post). What we did walk away with were little things: towels, small pillows, pots, net curtains, and frames; the last of which I was very excited to get because I’ve really wanted to get cracking on this wall for a week or two now. So, here it is! Most of it anyways. I’ve still got a few more I want to get up there, but I’m very happy with how it turned out!
