Hurricane Season in NYC

We are well into Hurricane season, and although I am glad we are not dealing with the brunt of it. I’m sure it will be exciting to see the tail end of Tropical Storm Hannah come through this weekend.

The Hurricane season continues through November First, so we may get some additional excitement out of this season as well.

In California, El Nino was often a treat, when you could find your self a safe seat on the cliffs or sometimes on the seawall of a sheltered beach and watch the 15+ foot waves consume buildings on the ocean fronts and wharfs. I am having a similar feeling looking at the New York Preparadness hurricane evecuation map. With a tropical storm on its way I’d like to find myself and Jules a nice comfortable apartment and have some friends over to watch the ‘FDR waterpark’ for an afternoon.

As a side bonus reading through the NYC Preparedness page has encouraged me to go out and buy enough water to fill the rest of the kitchen storage we have left.. and then some.

Feet in the Pacific

West Coast
I would have liked to have posted yesterday, but instead I finished cleaning up and cleaning out our old apartment. No AC in that place anymore, blah!

Anyways, as I said, Jack and I took a week-long trip to the West Coast! It was so much fun and was a pretty big deal for me since I hadn’t ever left the East Coast before! First we did a little business related stuff in Portland, flew down to Sacramento (big hug for Liz and Oman) and then finally drove through San Fransisco and on to Jack’s old stomping grounds, Santa Cruz. I got to meet Jack’s family (loved them!), get great thrifting/shopping on (pics of that later), hug a redwood, poked around the UCSC campus (go slugs!), see some serious fog, and put my feet in the Pacific (COLD!). It was busy, busy, busy and go, go, go, but we still didn’t get to do all that we wanted. Next time we will have to stay longer!

Back on the East Coast

Santa Cruz
I realized, after I left, that I didn’t put up any kind of we’re-going-on-vacation hiatus notice. Sorry about that. Anyway, we’re back from our whirl-wind trip on the West Coast and I’m still so freakin’ tired… but in the best way possible! Pictures and more details coming soon!

Fun with the ‘Rents

Fun with the 'Rents
Finally got over my laziness and got my pictures off my camera from this weekend. We took two tours: One was a ferry tour around Manhattan Island, which, although it took three hours and my face was burning by the end, was a really interesting trip. Did you know there are completely undeveloped areas of forest at the Northernmost tip? I didn’t! Second was a fantastic walking tour through the Chelsea Market and Meatpacking District. I do love it when people come and visit!

Oh, and as a restaurant recommendation, check out Le Bonne Soupe. Awesome little French place!

Mmm, Doughnuts!

twin peaks
I know I said I would get back to regular posting and I know I really haven’t… but life has been crazy and I will update once the dust settles. Oooo, exciting!

Any time in our apartment was spent watching Twin Peaks, which I can’t believe I had gone this far never seeing! The show has left me with a crazy craving for coffee (I guess I have that anyways), jelly doughnuts and pie! Fun, crazy show!

The Fourth

Hope everyone had a great one! Ours was spectacular! First brunch, then Governors Island, saw the David Byrne building instillation, had lunch on Wall St., and finally gathered up snacks and had a wonderful cookout on the roof while we watched fireworks. It was fairly low-key with just a few close friends, which is just the way I prefer it!

P.S. After this weekend, I’m thinking normal posting shall resume. Have a great one!

Return

Clouds
We had an amazing time this weekend in the capital of the South! Enjoyed a beautiful wedding, chilled with Morgan, Zack and pals, danced with my lovely, and drank with my cousins and brothers. I got both my Waffle House and Chick-fil-a fixes. Though I slept very little, all-in-all, I could not have asked for a better time! I’m sad that the above is the only picture I took the entire time there (but what a glorious picture it is!).

Ringing in a New Month

Ringing in June
What another grand, tourist-y, girls weekend, with my mom and grandma! Saturday had some iffy weather, and even though we were on an open-top bus tour, we managed to evade most of it. It poured a good bit while we were ate the gorgeous Frick Collection. Neither my grandmother nor Jack had ever been out to the Statue of Liberty, so Sunday the four of us took a ferry out to Liberty and Ellis Island. The weather could not have been better for that! Warm sun and cool breezes!

Next weekend is going to seem so slow after these past few weeks. I am looking forward to the relaxing down-time, but I’m ready for more people to come a visit!

Memorial Weekend

Memorial Weekend
i am so tired and happy! Things have been non-stop in our world since Thursday night. Like I said last week, having visitors is the best!

This was a long (but still, not long enough!) weekend of dinner in Chinatown/Little Italy, shopping waaay too much (but walking away with some great buys!), swinging in the park, grilling on fire escapes, sushi, Lemongrass (karaoke!), walking in the sun, Marines in bars, The Beer Garden, Crocodile Lounge (pizza!), subway Zamboni, Coney Island, sand, not enough sunscreen, fun, friends and adventure! *phew* I hope Lisa comes back sooooon!

And next weekend, I get even more visitors!

Through the eyes of a tourist

Through the eyes of a tourist
This weekend we had company, which is something that always excites me! Though today, Sunday, wasn’t the best, weather-wise, Saturday could not have been a more beautiful day to take in some of the sites that I, somewhat, take for granted, not being a tourist.
