We are well into Hurricane season, and although I am glad we are not dealing with the brunt of it. I’m sure it will be exciting to see the tail end of Tropical Storm Hannah come through this weekend.

The Hurricane season continues through November First, so we may get some additional excitement out of this season as well.
In California, El Nino was often a treat, when you could find your self a safe seat on the cliffs or sometimes on the seawall of a sheltered beach and watch the 15+ foot waves consume buildings on the ocean fronts and wharfs. I am having a similar feeling looking at the New York Preparadness hurricane evecuation map. With a tropical storm on its way I’d like to find myself and Jules a nice comfortable apartment and have some friends over to watch the ‘FDR waterpark’ for an afternoon.

As a side bonus reading through the NYC Preparedness page has encouraged me to go out and buy enough water to fill the rest of the kitchen storage we have left.. and then some.

Though I’ve yet to catch any of that “Hell’s Kitchen” show, Jack and I love Gordon Ramsay’s “Kitchen Nightmare.” So, needless-to-say, these hilarious and ingenious shorts for Caterer.com really tickled us. This kid they got is just brilliant!

Just a post about a bunch of things, at once. Thursday we saw Hellboy 2 (Jack enjoyed it, but I thought it was okay) and I wore my fabulous new thrift shoes (which I got while on our Santa Cruz trip, for $5). The rest of the weekend was spent further painting, cleaning and general spritzing up of our new place (YAY for fresh flowers!). We made book cases out of the drawers and slats from my old IKEA bed (hmmm, they don’t seem to be selling it anymore). It’s so much fun putting this place together! It’s, finally, really starting to come together… housewarming party coming soon!

Finally caught the first episode for Project Runway’s fifth season and this dress, by Kenley, was, hands-down, my favorite. The color, the pattern, the cut, the silhouette, perfect! I would buy and wear this today! I can’t believe it didn’t win. For shame, judges, for shame!

The parents have been in town and we’ve been having a great time… but more details about that latas.
Jack and I saw a very late showing of The Dark Knight Sunday night (got back to the apartment at about 4!). I could go on and on about the movie, but since I don’t want to give away anything, I’ll hold back. Twas absolutely incredible! It’s tied with Wall-E as my favorite movie of the year. Borderlining on a horror film, it was so intense, I spent half the film with my hands close to my face. OH! And there was a teaser trailer for Watchmen. I got fan-girl goosebumps all over!

5. Ep. 904: Werewolf
[At a party, writer Paul chats with archaeologist Natalie.]
Paul: I’m actually working on something now.
Natalie: Really? What’s the subject matter?
Crow [as Paul]: You’re right. The subject doesn’t matter at all.

4. Ep. 1004: Future War
Servo: Hey, it’s Jean Claude Van Damme!
Mike: Eh, it’s more like Jean Claude Gosh Darn.

3. Ep. 820: Space Mutiny (aka: Mutiny in Space)
[Raiders attack the shuttlecraft, in scenes lifted from 1978’s Battlestar Galactica.]
Mike: Special effects by Industrial Light and Morons.

2. Ep. 910: The Final Sacrifice
Zap Rowsdower: What’s your name, laddy?
Troy: Troy MacGregor.
Zap Rowsdower: I’m Rowsdower. Zap Rowsdower.
Crow: Yeah, well I’m Bill Shtinkwater!
[Rowsdower’s truck starts up.]
Mike: Rowsdowermobile, away!
Servo: And together they fought crime throughout Southwestern Alberta!

1. Ep. 424: Manos: The Hands of Fate
[As the end credits start to roll…]
Crow: A crew? They had a crew!? I do not believe they had a crew!
Joel: Okay, everybody pick out someone you wanna punch.
Servo: Where to start?

I know I said I would get back to regular posting and I know I really haven’t… but life has been crazy and I will update once the dust settles. Oooo, exciting!
Any time in our apartment was spent watching Twin Peaks, which I can’t believe I had gone this far never seeing! The show has left me with a crazy craving for coffee (I guess I have that anyways), jelly doughnuts and pie! Fun, crazy show!

We spent the rest of the long weekend very quiet and to ourselves. Saturday was a “order-in-and-watch-a-lot-of-MST3K” day and Sunday we saw a double-header at the theater. Hancock was pretty darn good and Wall-E was down-right incredible (would you expect anything less from Pixar, though). May not seem fun for some, but we sure enjoyed our weekend.

This is amazing to go through: an international index of hundreds of covers of H.G. Wells’ iconic book! I love seeing the various interpretations different artists have; some go purely typographic, some give small, subtle hints to the story and themes, while others basically make it so you get everything just from the cover.
