General Orders No. 9

General Orders No. 9
Named after the announcement of the South’s surrender to the Union, General Orders No. 9 looks like it could be a very interesting film…

The stunning culmination of over eleven years’ work from first time writer-director Robert Persons, General Orders No. 9 marries experimental filmmaking with an accessible, naturalist sensibility to tell the epic story of the clash between nature and man’s progress, and reaches a bittersweet reconciliation all its own.

Daydreaming About The South

Savannah Georgia
These photos of Design Sponge’s Grace Bonney’s wedding have made me swoon over Savannah, once again. I’ll be thinking of the many memories I have of those Spanish moss lined street this weekend!

Ode to Waffle House

Ode to Waffle House
Oooooh, how I miss thee! When I’m in Georgia I’m always tryin’ to get my Wa-Ho and Chick-fi-la on. I spent countless hours in that wonderous place all through high school and college. *Daydreaming*

All I know is that by the time Waffle House gets through with the variations on its frozen potatoes, it has made frozen potatoes into what Italians have made pasta, i.e., the bedrock of an entire culinary universe. And that’s how Waffle House works, in general. Its menu is narrow the way the selection of notes in “The Goldberg Variations” is narrow. Let diners expand their menus by simple, relentless addition; Waffle House relies on a higher math, so its menu, which seems a forthright declaration of its limitations, is actually a celebration of possibility.

Lincoln’s Christmas Gift

Savannah
For my four glorious years of college I lived off the Georgia coast in Savannah. Now, while I’ve always said that Charleston SC would probably win the Southern city beauty competition, Savannah will always hold a charm about it that Charleston can’t touch. I lived “Downtown” in the “Historic District” all four years, which is a small, very walkable area. Every square has a memory.

I’ve been thinking, for some time now, how much I would like to take a trip back, and show Jack around my old stopping grounds, so I was delighted to come across Design*Sponge’s Savannah Guide! It’s fun going through that list and reminisce! I do have two restaurants to add to the list, though: B&D and Juarez. Both were places my friends and I hit up all the time and absolutely worth and stop in if you want a damn tasty burger (I recommend the Lucas) or some great, well priced Mexican food!

Return

Clouds
We had an amazing time this weekend in the capital of the South! Enjoyed a beautiful wedding, chilled with Morgan, Zack and pals, danced with my lovely, and drank with my cousins and brothers. I got both my Waffle House and Chick-fil-a fixes. Though I slept very little, all-in-all, I could not have asked for a better time! I’m sad that the above is the only picture I took the entire time there (but what a glorious picture it is!).

Midnight Plane to Georgia

Weekend trip to Atlanta, Georgia
This weekend I took a trip back to my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. I managed to cram a ton of friends and family time into three short days. It was my cousin’s wedding shower and one of my best friend’s birthday. Not a whole lot of sleep happened, but who cares when your having so much fun! And, although Jack wasn’t able to join me on this trip, he gave me the best welcome-back reception ever!
