And now, just a little fun to get you through those Wednesday blues!
My adventures in the Pittsburgh International Airport during the worst snow storm of the century. After arriving late for a flight at 7:40 PM to LGA I decided to stick around my gate until my flight at 5:40 and had a BLAST!
A friend of ours is having a Tiny Hat Party this weekend and for it, Jack and I made mini crowns. I had some much fun working on making our own crowns (I will post pictures of the set later),I wanted to see just how small I could make them. Thought it would be fun to put together a tutorial of me putting it all together!
First thing’s first: supplies. Glue gun, bottle cap, thin foam sheet (in my case white), red and white felt, tape, scissors and/or X-Acto, gold spray paint, pencil, black marker, decorations! (jems, thin chains, etc.)
Step 1: Start creating the outer “leaf” sections. You can either drawn lightly, with a pencil, on the thin foam itself or make a template on a peice of paper and trace it onto the foam.
Step 2: Cut out the pieces and spray both sides with gold spray paint.
Step 3: While your waiting for the “leaves” to dry you can move on to the base. Cut out the red felt in a circle slightly bigger than the bottle cap, so that it can cover all the edges. Hot glue gun it. I recommend starting to glue the outside first, then pulling and gluing the edges in.
Step 4: Hot glue the “leaves” into the base, as evenly spaced as possible. Set aside for a sec.
Step 5: Take a bit of tape and roll it into a ball. Make it so it will fill the interior of the base nicely. Glue on some nice fuzzy white fleece and fleck with a black marker to create some faux ermine fur.
Step 6: Glue fur ball (hehe) into place.
Step 7: Now, glue each of the “leaf” tips to the center of the ball. Work with the pairs across from each other; glue two down, then the next two on top of those. I topped it all off with a little gem to hid the seam.
Hope everyone had a great one! Ours was spectacular! First brunch, then Governors Island, saw the David Byrne building instillation, had lunch on Wall St., and finally gathered up snacks and had a wonderful cookout on the roof while we watched fireworks. It was fairly low-key with just a few close friends, which is just the way I prefer it!
P.S. After this weekend, I’m thinking normal posting shall resume. Have a great one!
i am so tired and happy! Things have been non-stop in our world since Thursday night. Like I said last week, having visitors is the best!
This was a long (but still, not long enough!) weekend of dinner in Chinatown/Little Italy, shopping waaay too much (but walking away with some great buys!), swinging in the park, grilling on fire escapes, sushi, Lemongrass (karaoke!), walking in the sun, Marines in bars, The Beer Garden, Crocodile Lounge (pizza!), subway Zamboni, Coney Island, sand, not enough sunscreen, fun, friends and adventure! *phew* I hope Lisa comes back sooooon!
I have been in such a painting mood recently and it’s great! I’m trying to see how many of these bird watercolors I can crank out. Painting birds seems so odd, too, because I’m usually so much more interested in people (and portraiture, more specifically). But, I’m really having a lot of fun, so why stop? Next up, the cardinal!
New York City Pillow Fight 2008 *third annual*
Saturday, March 22nd 2008 in Union Square at 3:00 PM
A massive pillow fight in New York City! Feathers fly and teddies soar as we gather for a massive urban pillow fight! Swing and whack as you evade pillow-wielding assailants. Bring a pillow to Union Square and wait for the signal. Pillow fight!
This year’s pillow fight is timed to coincide with pillow fights in cities all over the world.
Once upon a time a California boy met a Georgia girl in New York. They didn't get along, at first. But, little by little, they fell in love. Today they are happy and still very much in love, running a business and a blog together.
