As a pretty big fan of the series, it’s sad to see that the new Sex and the City movie looks simply awful. I really had no desire to see it in theaters (wait until rentals, perhaps…), until I read this amazing review/interpretation. Going in with this mindset might make this movie bearable!
When viewed as a rom-com, Sex and the City 2 is terrible and crappy and a horrific inversion of everything the show once was. But when viewed as a science fiction film, SATC2 is subversive, stylish and chilling. Like The Island from Lost, we may never know The City’s true identity — Is it a VR computer program? A malevolent interdimensional god? Satan?
I didn’t even realize until late last night that I didn’t update the blog! Obviously, not a lots riding on this… it just felt strange. Had a busy night last night; went to a gallery opening for Iain Faulkner at the Eleanor Ettinger Gallery, and saw a midnight showing of Iron Man. So, sleep didn’t happen until well after 3. I’m pooped! Iron Man was really fun. HUGE plot holes, but it was geeky fun and Robert Downey Jr. is so suave! In other news, my hair is turquoise, which is quite excited as I’ve never gone this color before. Good times!
I’m rambling a bit, probably due to lack of sleep and feeling under the weather anyway. Picture taken from this morning; the light was just so lovely! Here’s to a relaxing weekend! Much love!
I had heard about this movie a little from the design blogs I frequent and was very happy to see that it popped up on Hulu. At only 35min, it’s a very short movie, but is so full of inspiration!
What do people who were once paid to be creative for a living do when they’re laid off? They get creative with their own lives. Lemonade is an inspirational film about 16 advertising professionals who lost their jobs and found their calling, encouraging people to listen to that little voice inside their head that asks, “What if?”
I really have no words for how hilarious this is… Watch parts 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7!
Finally it’s here! The truly epic review/critique/analysis/film making educational video of the 1999 film “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” There was so much to discuss with this film it had to be long so please don’t complain. If you think it’s too long then don’t watch it. In this opening segment I discuss the major flaw of The Phantom Menace which is the characters and the lack of connection with the audience.
I’ve been reading and watching a lot on copyright laws recently and it is utterly fascinating.
Probably the best movie I’ve seen so far is the documentary, RiP! A Remix Manifesto. The director, Brett Gaylor, not only made a great piece on the stifling effect copyright law has on creativity in this country, but he also started Open Source, which encourages remixing and expanding upon videos. The below video is footage of Girl Talk from the film that was remixed.
Once upon a time a California boy met a Georgia girl in New York. They didn't get along, at first. But, little by little, they fell in love. Today they are happy and still very much in love, running a business and a blog together.
