Brand New’s April Fool’s joke this year is really really great! It’s retro and so adorable! Jack’s totally into the sprinkle t-shirt. DD would be smart to take this into consideration. Happy April to you all; I’m so happy the sun is out and temperatures are on the rise!
I’m in a pretty crappy funk. I’ve been reading a ton of Clients From Hell to help cheer myself up. Plus, I recently came across this magical piece by David Thorne (of Spider Payment fame). So funny, from beginning to end!
Dear Simon,
You are correct and I apologise. Your last project was actually both commercially viable and original. Unfortunately the part that was commercially viable was not original, and the part that was original was not commercially viable.
I would no doubt find your ideas more ‘cutting edge’ and original if I had traveled forward in time from the 1950′s but as it stands, your ideas for technology based projects that have already been put into application by other people several years before you thought of them fail to generate the enthusiasm they possibly deserve. Having said that though, if I had traveled forward in time, my time machine would probably put your peer to peer networking technology to shame as not only would it have commercial viability, but also an awesome logo and accompanying pie charts.
Regardless, I have, as requested, attached a logo that represents not only the peer to peer networking project you are currently working on, but working with you in general.
Just a neat little bit of trivia: today is Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday. To celebrate Darwin, Google has this pretty rendition (“doodle”?) of their logo up on its main page. Nothing for Abe… maybe later?
It’s been a while, huh? Well, this little hiatus, actually isn’t quiet over, yet. I’m almost finished with my presents, with two more to go. But, I did want to quickly post a few picture taken from when the ‘rents were in town. The weather could have been better, but we made the most of it and had a fabulous time!
Also, check out these great videos about the development of the now iconic Obama 08 logo!
It’s rare that you get such a detailed and honest account of logo design and branding from the clients point of view. Cute story about the development of the MailChimp mascot over the years. (The final design was created by Jon Hicks, designer of the Firefox logo.)
Anyway, our beloved mascot has gone through a bunch of iterations over the years, each one slightly less clumsy than the preceding version, but I’ve never been happy with it.
Until now. That’s because this time, we went out and hired an expert.
Thanks to my dad for pointing out this neat little study.
A new study shows that just being exposed to the Apple logo can make you more creative. Duke researcher Gavan Fitzsimons talks with NPR’s Susan Stamberg about his study on logos and the brain.
Makes me have a little bit more appreciation for the designers, Wolff Olill. (I’m not sure I can completely forgive and forget after the London 2012 atrocity, though.)
Poor Wolff Olins. Can’t get a break no matter how hard they try — and lord knows that if anyone tries hard, maybe a little too hard, it’s Wolff Olins. We all know (and most, not me) hate the London 2012 identity and pretty much everyone is baffled by the Wacom color thingie, but it’s perhaps the new New York City taxi logo that everybody, at least in the (212) area code, has hated the most. And with good reason. But, for a change, it’s not Wolff Olins’ fault.
Once upon a time a California boy met a Georgia girl in New York. They didn't get along, at first. But, little by little, they fell in love. Today they are happy and still very much in love, running a business and a blog together.
