I may have never been a “plant person,” but I’m very tempted to try this out. I love the mixture of rebellion, environmentalism and, in my opinion, art this is.
Jonathan noted today’s LA Times profile about militant gardening, with Angelenos looking to change the urban landscape one seed bomb at a time. Hidden in the article is a helpful photo instructional how-to, as shown above. Don’t mistake those seed “bombs” above for truffles…they’re the arsenal of the urban gardeners mentioned in today’s LA Times article.
1. Caroline Kim takes us through the step-by-step process of making seed bombs that gardeners on the go drop into the soil of barren, forlorn spots. Start with organic earthworm castings. Then add clay soil. Mix dry.
2. Add wildflower seeds to the mixture of clay and earthworm castings.
3. Next, Caroline adds water and mixes together wildflower seeds, clay soil and earthworm castings into a mud pie-like consistency.
4. She scoops up little mounds of the mixture and rolls them into bombs, more like balls.
5. The seed bombs are left to dry for a day outside in a plastic container.
6. With the seed bombs stowed in her red bag, the stiletto-wearing Caroline takes off on her bike in search of vacant patches of public space. To plant the seed bombs, she digs holes with a trusty tool — the heel of her shoe. “Stilettos work really well,” she says, grinning.

Happy Friday!
On that note, my silly exciting find of the day yesterday was after about 8-9 hours of straight driving, stuck in INSANE traffic in NY that was moving at about 20 mph for over 2 hours, and i found myself staring at large semis and their various mud flaps and signage and the typography on them… and then i saw it. Mudflaps with FLYING MOOSE! Forget unicorns and pegasuses… flying moose! I forced dan to try and take a pic of it with his iphone (which i will have to bother him later to get it off)… the one we saw was like the one in the bottom left, it seemed friendlier than what appears to be the newer version on their site now.

Well before the arrival of the first white settlers, the Abenaquis tribe lived in a village where the Mechatigan and Manosak rivers meet.
The Abenaquis tribe would return to this area every year to stock up on food, which was plentiful here thanks to the two rivers and the surrounding forests.
According to the legend, Mahanak, the son of the grand chief Metgermett, befriended a young moose that had lost its mother when she tried to protect it from a pack of attacking wolves. When Mahanak found the young moose, it was badly injured and weak and was slowly dying.
The two friends became inseparable. One spring day, Mahanak and his friend were returning to the village after a long trek through the Etchemin countryside. They were forced to take a different route because the melting snow had caused the mighty Manosak river to rise. In an effort to avoid a huge rock, the two companions lost their foothold, fell into the raging river and were swept away by a powerful current.
Mahanak managed to grab hold of the moose’s antlers and climb onto its back. As they were approaching the Devil’s waterfalls, Mahanak implored the spirits of the forest to come to their rescue.
The spirits remembered Mahanak’s act of kindness on the day he saved his young friend. The spirits helped the moose descend the falls by keeping its head above the water and saving Mahanak from drowning. Two old hunters, who had witnessed the scene, said that the moose had descended the falls slowly, as though it had wings.
The following night, Mahanak had a dream. The spirits of the forest told him that his moose would be leaving him to go to the land of the spirits where it would watch over the inhabitants of the forest. Mahanak then saw his companion nod good-bye and slowly fly away, opening its mighty wings. By sunrise, the moose had disappeared.

It’s always a bit disappointing when something so inspirational turns out to be a fake. I mean, the idea is still a great one, but I’m still a little let down.
But after bloggers pointed out holes in Nordenankar’s claim, DHL confirmed to the Telegraph that the artwork was an “entirely fictional project”.
…
Many pointed out that DHL delivery planes would have been highly unlikely to make the tight loops in the North Atlantic that form the hair of the self-portrait.Others noted that many of the package’s mid-route stops appear to be in the middle of the ocean.
“[He] could have at least centered the drawing over the land areas, so it would be more believable that DHL had made stops there, as opposed to a DHL plane making loop-the-loops out over the Atlantic,” a reader called Shinanigans posted on the Neatorama blog.
…
“A GPS signal cannot penetrate dense materials. That briefcase looks dense enough to block the signal and the roof of a car or thick walls of an airplane blocks the rest,” a blogger named Samppa79 wrote.

And here’s the conclusion to yesterday’s countdown of my favorite Sex and the City episodes. It was pretty tough narrowing it down so much, but I managed.

05. “I Love A Charade” Season 5, Episode 8
The girls are invited to the unlikely wedding of Carrie’s supposedly gay friend, flamboyant lounge singer Bobby Fine to society lady Bitsy Von Muffling. Charlotte’s new ‘just sex’ partner, Harry, invites her to be his date for the big Hamptons wedding. In another not so clear relationship, Miranda inexplicably finds herself having sex with Steve. Meanwhile, Samantha calls upon the services of her ex, Richard, in another way: she arranges to throw a party at his house in the Hamptons. On the way out to the Hamptons, Carrie runs into Jack Berger, who tells her he broke up with his girlfriend. Carrie can’t help but feel that zsa zsa zsu.

04. “I Heart NY” Season 4, Episode 18
It’s autumn in New York and Carrie’s yearning for some company. She invites herself over to Big’s apartment, finding it filled with shipping boxes. Samantha is also feeling abandoned as Richard is late for their rendezvous. Meanwhile, while leading a tour at the Museum of Modern Art, Charlotte is asked out by one of the visitors. Carrie keeps Miranda sane as she gives birth to a healthy baby boy.

03. “An American Girl in Paris (Part Une)” Season 6, Episode 19
Before leaving for Paris, Carrie runs into Big outside of her apartment, but she makes it clear to him that she wants him totally out of her life. In her travels, she sees four women having a meal together, which combined with the frustration of losing her signature “Carrie” necklace in a spill at Dior, makes her think about her usual dining companions who are now an ocean away. Meanwhile, back in New York, Samantha is chosen to speak at a benefit for breast cancer research. Her speech starts out stiffly, but she soon loosens up, and wins over the audience with her usual blunt manner. Charlotte and Harry continue their quest to adopt a child, with the newlyweds knowing that the process is going to be long and difficult.

02. “The Good Fight” Season 4, Episode 13
As Aidan and all his stuff officially move into Carrie’s apartment, Carrie starts feeling increasingly claustrophobic. Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte tease Samantha about her affection for her client and lover, Richard. Miranda, meanwhile, would love to get laid by her blind date, Walker Lewis, but is conflicted about having sex while pregnant. When Trey brings Charlotte a surprise present - a cardboard baby, Charlotte is appalled and also storms out.

01. “An American Girl in Paris (Part Deux)” Season 6, Episode 20
After Petrovsky leaves Carrie behind for a second time in Paris, she begins to wonder if she’s doomed to follow in his ex-wife’s footsteps. Back in New York, Samantha’s chemo treatments are messing with her sex drive, and she tries to push Smith away in an attempt to cope with it. Hoping to adopt a baby, Charlotte and Harry host an expectant couple from North Carolina, with the intent of acquiring their unborn child. Miranda and Steve have their hands full, as his mom, Mary, has suffered a small stroke.
Enjoy the movie; I know I will!

I would love to be in possession of this quirky piece! This is right up there with those lovely eyelash necklaces!
New from the Fall 08 collection, moustache necklaces! As featured in the Gen Art moustache naming contest last month, the Inspector Closeau (thin) and the Phileas Fogg (bushy), both necklaces are oxidized bronze with 24″ sterling chains. They function as both a sophisticated piece of jewelry and can also be held up to the upper lip monocle-style for the extra statement or handy disguise.

I’ve gotta rep my old school, SCAD! Great and informative video.
In this ~9-minute video, Daniel Floyd, a professor at Savannah College of Art and Design, convincingly advances the theory that the major problem with sex in video-games is that there isn’t enough sex in video games — that video-games’ failure to come to grips with sex as part of the artistic message and aesthetic in games (in addition to the hypersexualized juvenile Lara Croft/Duke Nukem stuff), it can’t convincingly argue that games are an actual artistic medium that deserves to be considered on the same terms as painting, literature, sculpture, film, and other media that often feature sexual material.

As I’m sure a lot of girls out there are, I’m uber excited about Sex and the City coming out next week. So, in anticipation of this glorious occasion, I thought I would go through the rundown of my top 10 episodes. (This’ll be a two-part countdown: 10-6 today, 5-1 tomorrow). Let the fun begin!

10. “The Freak Show” Season 2, Episode 3
Are all men freaks? Carrie dates a bunch of freaks before she meets Ben, then ruins a great thing when she turns into a freak; Samantha goes on a first date with a man who wears dog collars and likes to be slapped around; Charlotte dates “Mr. Pussy” but realizes that’s all he’s good for; Miranda gives up on dating entirely.

09. “Models and Mortals” Season 1, Episode 2
Miranda makes the mistake of going out with a “modelizer” (someone who’s obsessed with models); Samantha chooses to go out with a modelizer and has her sexual encounter videotaped; Carrie experiments with Derek the Model and flirts with Mr. Big.

08. “Twenty-Something Girls vs. Thirty-Something Women” Season 2, Episode 17
Twenty-something women. Friend…or foe? Carrie and the girls get a share in the Hamptons, where Samantha’s ex-assistant steals her Rolodex and throws a party; Charlotte dates a twenty-something guy who gives her crabs; Miranda runs into the hairstylist she’s suing for age discrimination; and Carrie discovers Big dating a 26-year-old named Natasha.

07. “Great Sexpectations” Season 6, Episode 2
Unfortunately, after a night of “quiet sex,” Carrie discovers that the passion the two share doesn’t translate to the bedroom. Meanwhile, when Samantha introduces the girls to a “raw foods” restaurant, she discovers that she wants something that’s not on the menu… a date with the hot waiter. Hoping to fill the Steve-sized hole in her life, Miranda finds a new love, TiVO. Having decided that Harry is indeed her ideal man, Charlotte announces that she is going to convert to Judaism.

06. “All or Nothing” Season 3, Episode 10
Samantha throws a self-congratulatory soiree at her new apartment where she tries to convince the girls that they have it all — great friends, good jobs, and plenty of sex. Carrie tries to play along, but her fling with Big eats away at her. On the Charlotte front, Trey lays down a pre-nuptial agreement which has Charlotte worth a measly half a mill. Meanwhile Miranda meets her first man post-Steve. George is a cute yuppie from out of town who turns Miranda onto the wonders of phone sex.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s instillation!
