SATC Fashion Trivia

SATC Fashion Trivia
Fun trivia about the fashion of Sex and the City movie!

Sarah Jessica Parker makes 81 costume changes in the movie. As for the leads collectively: “I would estimate that there were well over 300 changes for these four women,” Field said in press materials. “And there were many other characters with one or two changes. I never counted up, but I’m sure it was over a thousand costumes. It was monumental.”

For the Vogue fashion shoot in the movie, editrix Anna Wintour had to approve the script, the gowns and even the background players (photographer Patrick Demarchelier, hairstylist Serge Normant, makeup artist Gucci Westman and editors André Leon Talley, Plum Sykes and Lawren Howell). It took eight weeks for Wintour to approve the wedding gowns used in the scene (Vera Wang, Christian Lacroix, Christian Dior, Oscar de la Renta and Vivienne Westwood). It is the only scene that Field did NOT fashion direct.

The breakfast/coffee shop scene has Carrie and Lily coloring in a Cinderella book. Carrie is coloring Cinderella’s glass slippers blue, a reference to the blue Manolo Blahnik shoes that Big puts on Carrie’s foot at the film’s finale. Also, Carrie reads Cinderella to Lily when putting her to bed.

The Crane Dress

Anthropologie Sandhill Halter Dress
I’ve been using my cousin’s wedding as an excuse to buy dress after dress. But, the dress I’ve really been wanting is this Sandhill Halter Dress for about a month now, but the $170 price tag had been keeping me at arms length. But, my sweet lovely grandmother said she would help me pay for it since she really knew how much I wanted it. And, I am happy to say that, as of yesterday, I am in possession of the last size 2 in this city! Now we start shopping for Jack and find me some shoes!

Moustache Necklaces

moustache necklaces
I would love to be in possession of this quirky piece! This is right up there with those lovely eyelash necklaces!

New from the Fall 08 collection, moustache necklaces! As featured in the Gen Art moustache naming contest last month, the Inspector Closeau (thin) and the Phileas Fogg (bushy), both necklaces are oxidized bronze with 24″ sterling chains. They function as both a sophisticated piece of jewelry and can also be held up to the upper lip monocle-style for the extra statement or handy disguise.

Is This the World’s Cheapest Dress?

Monday night: I bought this dress on a whim, since it was $9 (everything in the store was!), Today: it’s all over the Style Section of the New York Times along with an article on why Steve & Barry can do what they do. Interesting timing I have…

Steve & Barry’s, for the uninitiated, is to fashion what Tower once was to music. Steve & Barry’s is manna, a store that sells stylish celebrity-branded clothes at prices that are absurdly inexpensive, lower than those at Old Navy, H & M or Forever 21, undercutting even Wal-Mart by as much as half.

“It seems like there is some justice in that, doesn’t it?” said Ms. Parker, who last week attended a movie premiere wearing a bitty blue sundress with a print of hothouse foliage, $8.98, from Bitten, her year-old Steve & Barry’s collection. “For a lot of people — young women, middle-age women, regular women — there is this idea about wanting fashion in an affordable way. They are living in a less rarefied world.”

Leggings as Pants

Leggings as pants, a fashion fad I was done with long before it even started. If you wouldn’t where that dress/skirt/whatever without the leggings, please do everyone a favor and don’t leave the house in it. The potential for camel-toe, and in the above case (which is all too disastrous), moose knuckle, is just way, way too high. And, we don’t all need to know every contour of you behind. </fashion tirade> Thank you and good night!
